Manatees

The Manatee, also referred to as the sea cow, are a docile endangered species that are in themselves a tourist attraction in Florida. While manatees pose no danger to humans, their naturally curious nature makes them go investigate the noises that boats make. This unfortunately frequently results in accidents where boat propellers injure the manatees. Most adult manatees can be seen with scars on their backs from boat accidents. The pictures above were taken at Homosassa Springs which is a Florida State Park which operates a manatee rescue program including a manatee hospital as well as many programs to teach the public about them.
